In less than a month, I am going to have another semester of university under my belt. The crazy thing about realizing that this semester is winding down to end is knowing that once it does, I will have six semesters successfully completed, which means that I will be over halfway done with my time at university. Although I have been seen them over the course of the last year, I will be spending my summer living with my parents. Even though you may think that living with your parents again after having so much freedom sounds terrible, it’s not bad at all when you know it’s only temporary. The only thing standing in between me and my time back home is the final examinations that so many people dread. While I was very worried about my final examinations last semester (for the record, I ended up doing well), I am really confident that I’m not going to encounter any problems during the ones at the end of this semester. To reward myself for my upcoming strong performance on my final examinations, I have already made some summer plans.
Once I move back home to London, I am taking an old friend with me and we are picking up a Luton airport car rental I reserved. Having the Luton airport car rental will give us the ability to take a road trip and kick off the summer in a fun way. Since the two of us have both been working hard at university, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate starting the summer than to enjoy the freedom of being on the road for a full week.

Since it has been the main focus of bloggers, newspapers and the television media for the last month or so, you have undoubtedly heard about the swine flu virus that began in Mexico and is spreading around the world. As the news started to spread that the H1N1 flu virus was believed to be responsible for more than one hundred deaths in Mexico, people started to panic about the virus having the same effect around the world. While swine flu has continued to spread throughout the world (appearing in everywhere from the United States to Australia), it’s percentage of fatalities have decreased significantly. The reason that I am bringing up this fact is that while I could understand widespread worry if this flu virus was killing a significant amount of people, I don’t understand the ongoing worries at this point. Since the panic level of people around the world has failed to decline (although there is every reason for them to worry less), countries are still taking a hard stance on swine flu.
Regardless of the fact that the swine flu worries continue, I am not going to let them interfere with my summer travel plans. Towards the beginning of this year, I planned a summer trip to London with my friend, and we have been excited about spending a week in London ever since we booked our reservations. After spending time tracking down great deals on my flight, hotel room and Luton airport car rental, there’s no way I am giving those up and canceling my trip to London. The one reason that I don’t think I will actually have to worry about canceling my trip is because by the time it actually arrives, I bet the news media will have something new to make people worry about more than swine flu!
